Barranquilla is a must-visit for all foreigners who wish to experience the magic of the cultural expressiveness of the Colombian Caribbean. The Barranquilla Carnival is the main celebration in this region of the country and of Colombia, where in one place, dances, joy, and colorful costumes adorn the city’s main streets.
The Barranquilla Carnival was declared a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2003. This recognition has strengthened the sense of belonging among its citizens, who used to leave the city during the festival dates, but nowadays, this has reduced as the Carnival is now part of the identity of Barranquilleros.
‘He who experiences it, enjoys it!’ And indeed, during these celebrations, the past comes alive—the Carnival that came to America from Spain. It’s four days of maximum cultural expression, starting with the Battle of Flowers, followed by the King Momo parade, then the grand tradition parade, orchestra festival, grand parade of troupes, and the death of Joselito Carnival.
However, the pre-carnival festivities kick off in January, giving a taste of this grand Colombian celebration. In 2024, the Carnival will take place on February 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th. Plan to experience this with WildTrip!”
