San Andrés y Providencia

Arriving on the island of the Seven-Colored Sea is truly a WildTrip experience. The Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia, and Santa Catalina offers a tourist package of sun, breeze, and sea. You’ll get to know the raizal culture, with its native language Creole, accompanied by seafood-rich cuisine with tropical flavors.

The raizal people are an Afro-Caribbean Protestant ethnic group with an identity rooted in their Anglo-African history, cultural expressions, Baptist religion, and the Creole language, a creole dialect based on English. All of this contributes to their strong and enduring identity over time.

The various shades of blue and the clarity of the Caribbean Sea make this destination highly desirable for diving. However, keep in mind that you must wait a minimum of 12 hours after arriving before your first dive. After diving, it’s not recommended to fly due to nitrogen saturation. So, plan ahead for this unforgettable experience of observing marine species and coral reefs.

While you’re there, you can savor the island’s most traditional dish, ‘rondón,’ a blend of fish, conch, pork tail, yam, yucca, plantain, and flour tortillas, all bathed in coconut milk with a touch of pepper.

It’s important to note that tourists cannot stay on the island for more than 4 continuous or discontinuous months in a year. To visit the island, you must purchase a tourist card, which costs $124,000 Colombian pesos and is obtained at the airport before your flight to the archipelago. Wear comfortable, lightweight clothing, and be prepared for shopping, as it is also a commercial destination with tax exemptions.

To reach Providencia and Santa Catalina from San Andrés, you can travel by sea or air. Boats and flights depart daily, taking you to the farthest reaches of Colombia—a paradise perfect for disconnecting from the city’s hectic pace and reconnecting with oneself. It’s the ideal place to rest and relax on the beautiful beaches. Come and enjoy this WildTrip destination
